Zebra Shark

The spotty stripy shark that thinks she’s a turtle...

We think our Zebra shark might be having an identity crisis! Her name is Athena and she’s nine feet long. Half of that is made up of her tail. Athena has a very special friend in the tank. His name is George and he is a...green sea turtle! Sometimes we find them lying together in the mornings. George will have his flipper over Athena as if hugging her! Of course, as with any relationship, it’s not always plain sailing. When you visit you might catch Athena stealing George’s food. You’ll also get to see her in her favourite day-time hang out. It’s the perfect place for you to get a really close up view of her.

Although Athena is called a zebra shark she is spotty. Once upon a time, when she was a baby, she would have been stripy like a zebra. This would have been to provide camouflage. Athena is the best target feeder in the ocean tank and loves the divers because she is so nosey! Athena also loves her food and enjoys a diet of Squid and Whiting.
