Japanese Spider Crabs are the largest arthropod known to man and can grow – unbelievably – to the size of a mini! Yes! Their leg span can be as wide as 3.8 metres! They live at a depth of 200 to 300 metres.

  • It is the males which have the longest chelipeds
  • The Japanese Spider Crab is the largest arthropod in the world in terms of leg span, reaching up to 3.8 metres (12 ft 6 in) and weighing up to 41 pounds (19 kg)
  • They have 10 legs so are called a Decapod
