Shark conservation
Here at SEA LIFE Loch Lomond we work with the Scottish Sea Angling Conservation Network (SSCN) to protect native sharks in coastal areas of Scotland. Large numbers of them are being killed as by-catch.
We also give special shark talks to emphasise the importance of this work and to educate our visitors and the general public about the plight of our native species of sharks. Sharks face many dangers, among them are being entangled in fishing nets, being caught as by-catch, overfishing, shark finning and accidental capture.
We also take part in a national Shark Tagging program to collect data about the amount of native sharks found around the coast of Scotland and raising funds for SSCAN
Shark tagging helps us monitor movement and understand distribution and migration of native sharks which leads to the development of better conservation and fishing polices
