Cephalopods Hit the Court Just in Time For Spring Break!
Octopus Garden is NOW OPEN!
K-Love the octopus along with some of his human Minnesota Timberwolves teammates unveiled the name and details of the all new Octopus Garden exhibit in SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium at Mall of America. Octopus Garden, presented by the Minnesota Timberwolves, will be a new innovative attraction opening in March 2013 and running through December 2013. The new exhibit was revealed January 29th by the Minnesota Timberwolves players Chase Budinger, Greg Stiemsma and Derrick Williams along their friends from Hope Kids via a large basketball hoop fit with a specially made octopus tentacle net.
Octopus, cuttlefish, nautilus and more display their supernatural skills including camouflage, ink clouds and jet propulsion. Guests can discover how these amazing abilities compare to the equally impressive skills of Minnesota Timberwolves fan favorites Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Pekovic and more.
- Learn how K-Love, named after Kevin Love, can use its powerful suction cups to grab food in the same way Kevin grabs rebounds.
- Discover that Cuttlefish, like Rubio, have no true blind spot, although one uses their eyesight for assists while the other uses it to hunt its prey.
- Explore how both the Chambered Nautilus and Nikola Pekovic have an external protective shell (one made of immensely large muscles) to protect them from enemies on the court or in the sea.
“We are thrilled to introduce guests of all ages to these strangely beautiful creatures as only SEA LIFE can.” said Aaron Hunter, General Manager of SEA LIFE Minnesota. “Octopus Garden will educate guests about the interesting world of cephalopods while incorporating the oddly factual and fun creature comparisons to the Minnesota Timberwolves players and the sport of basketball.”
With five new display tanks, the exhibit features various Octopus, Cuttlefish, Chambered Nautilus and more. Octopus Garden also includes interactive learning opportunities for all ages.
