Tasmanische Riesenkrabbe

Tasmanian Giant Crab

The Tasmanian Giant Crab inhabits the coastal areas of South East Australia. They live in depth up to 270 m. These crabs have been used commercially by the fishing industry since 1992.

As strong as Arnold Schwarzenegger and as massive as Wladimir Klitschko and armed like a mighty knight – these are the reasons that SEA LIFE Oberhausen named their creature addition “Crabinator”. Its shell has a width of ca. 30 cm, it has a weight of about 3 kg and claws that can kill its prey with just one blow. That’s mighty impressive and makes Crabinator quite awe-inspiring.
The Tasmanian Giant Crab is part of our 2012 special exhibit "Claws" .
