Paul the Octopus Predicts

Paul the Octopus

Since January 2011, a huge monument reminds visitors of the SEA LIFE aquarium Oberhausen of Octopus Paul, who made predictions for the matches of the European Cup 2008 as well as the World Cup 2010. Now, Paul is back to life: as a digital app for smart phone users.

Paul the Octopus

Paul the Octopus, a very special animal from SEA LIFE aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany, reached international fame during the 2010 World Cup when he accurately predicted the winner of each of the Germany national football team's seven, as well as the outcome of the final.

In addition to the monument, Paul the Octopus is being posthumously honoured by the launch of “Paul the Octopus Predicts European Champions League by SEA LIFE”. Created by SAP, a new powerful technology for fast data analysis is being used.

The gaming app, launched on the iTunes Appstore, allows players to test their predictive skills against Paul in match by match play from the Round of 16 starting Feb. 14th through the Finals on May 19th.

Paul's skill to predict games is fuelled by its astonishing ability to analyze past tournaments and all the incidentals that come with them. Players can face off against Paul and their friends by testing their knowledge against Paul’s deep archive of facts and figures or impress their friends with knowledge as they can explore all the data available from previous tournaments.
