Interactive Discovery pool

Rock pools are a small and fabulous universe with tiny discrete creatures. Starfish, Sea anemones, Crabs and other shells will show you their best colours just for you. Take part in the experience by meeting and holding these animals and feeling their textures!

The Discovery Pool is open every day from 10.00am to 5.00pm. All the animals within the pool are save to handle... and our experts are to hand to show you how!

The experience:

Touch a starfish lef and tickle the tentacles of a sea anemone
Hold in your hands a real shark egg!
Try to open a strong mussel
Observe a crab
Discover funny facts about creatures from the beach

Primitive animal! The Sea anemone is the cousin of the jellyfish and coral. It belongs to a very old family of marine animals called cnidarians.
A persistence champion The starfish eats shells like mussels or oysters. It succeeds in opening them with its legs. It's a very long process (about 24hours).
A big family Crustaceans - and part of the crab family - count more than 50,000 species! The biggest species is called the Japanese spider crab and can be 3.5m long!
