Seahorses, lovely endangered creatures

In traditional Asian culture, the seahorse is known for its medicinal properties. In addition, industrial fishing anticipates their desrtruction since they are often caught accidentally in the nets of trawlers. The destruction of their natural habitats (coral reefs, sea grass beds, magroves) contributes to their gradual depletion. Today, seahroses are endangered species.

Coral Reefs are among the most incredible living creatures alive. They develop over dozens of kilometers in the ocean. The coral ecosystem has the highest biodiversity in the marine ecosystem with 93,000 species which represent 5% of the total number of the total number of species. Very sensitive to pollution and brutally taken from their natural habitat for trade, they are disappearing slowly: This is a big issue since its is endangering all other species that lives in the unique and exceptional environment they create.

The corals given to us by the French customs offer the creatures chances to develop in good marine life conditions. They cannot be taken back to their natural life habitat so we can take care of them at the SEA LIFE centre.

The shark is a fish that was found in our oceans over 200 million years ago. This predator is very important to the marine chain food and participates to the marine life equilibrium. Yet today, there are 100 million sharks being killed annually in the world. One third of the elasmobranches species (the family of sharks and rays) are today endangered species.
