Scarborough beach clean

Help keep our beaches clean!
Here at Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary we sponsor two beaches, Jackson’s Bay and Burniston Bay. As sponsors we are responsible for organising and enlisting volunteer support at two beach cleans every year to protect our seas and the creatures that live in them.
By keeping our beaches clean we can keep harmful materials away from marine animals. Our beaches – and the creatures that live on or near them - are threatened by sewage and wastewater being diverted directly into the ocean, industrial waste, oil pollution, marine dumping, atmospheric deposition, radioactive waste, underground storage leaks and global warming.
We also support 'The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust' with their annual beach cleans.
Our last beach clean took place on 15th September 2012. This was a very successful clean up with 14 volunteers helping out. In total, 1587 pieces of litter was removed from Jackson's Bay. Thank you to everyone who donated their time and efforts to our conservation campaign.
Could you help us on our next beach clean? It’s a fun day out and will help – directly – to keep our beach dwelling creatures, sea birds and fish safe.
The next beach clean will be organised for 2013 and details will be posted on our website. If you are interested in being contacted about upcoming beach cleans, register now by emailing Josh Saunders
