World’s First Photography Exhibition Underwater Opens at Weymouth Sea Life Park!!

The world’s first photography exhibition underwater ‘Celebrations of the Sea’ will open at Weymouth Sea Life Park on November 15th.
Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society, one of the oldest charities providing financial support to former seafarers, is launching the exhibition, which is sponsored by canned seafood manufacturer John West, in honour of ‘unsung heroes of the sea’.

Weymouth Sea Life Park rallies support in town for European Shark Week!

The SEA LIFE team headed into town today (Friday 28th) to not only raise awareness of Shark Week and the dangers faced by sharks, but also to get passers by to sign a petition to safeguard sharks by promoting -
- A complete ban on removing shark fins at sea
- Shark and ray catch limits based on scientific advice and precautionary approach
- EU and national protections for endangered shark and ray species

Jaws Dropping Campaign By Sea Life Centres!

Sea Life centres, including Weymouth SEA LIFE Park have declared a ‘Jaws’ amnesty for the duration of European Shark Week…Oct 17th to 30th.
Peter Benchley’s tale of a seaside resort terrorised by a rampaging Great White and the subsequent Spielberg blockbuster were a disaster for sharks, Sea Life marine experts claim.

Sea Life Sharks Help Scientists Probe Mysteries of Ancient Seas!

That will be the goal of a major research project announced as the centres prepare to mark European Shark Week next month (October), to promote shark conservation.

Exploring the Welly Zone

Staff from Weymouth Sea Life Park will be pulling on their welly boots on Friday to go in search of marine life at Newton’s Cove.
They plan to spend two-and-a-half hours logging every bit of plant and animal life they find in the intertidal area and rockpools…in a bid to win protection for the fragile shoreline and shallow water habitats along the Dorset coastline.

Sand Sculptor Carves New Friends For Pining Penguins!

A talented sand sculptor has carved out some therapy for a group of pining penguins at a Sea Life Park in Weymouth.
The resident Humboldt penguins were joined for a couple of months earlier this year by a group of bigger, more energetic Gentoo penguins…who have since moved to a specially created Antarctic feature at the Sea Life London Aquarium.

Walk for Whales!!

Weymouth Sea Life Park raised £2470 to save whales on a sponsored walk.
12 walkers were sponsored to walk 5 miles from Weymouth Sea Life Park to the Pavilion to raise money for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, a leading international charity dedicated to the worldwide conservation and welfare of whales and dolphins.

The collection centre for the global chain of Sea Life aquariums is based in a behind the scenes facility at Weymouth Sea Life Park, and is currently housing the biggest collection of jellyfish ever assembled in the UK.

TURTLE FEST CELEBRATIONS!!

Weymouth Sea Life Park will join Sea Life centres across Europe holding ‘Turtle Fest’ turtle festivals this May half term (28/05/2011 - 05/06/2011).
Turtle Fest will see the Park host a range of fun conservation lead activities, as well as raising money for endangered Loggerhead turtles in Greece.
Part of the activities taking place at Weymouth Sea Life Park during the week is to make the Worlds Largest Papier Mache Turtle Shell.

They are two bonnethead sharks - members of the hammerhead family - and they will be introduced to the Shark Reef at Weymouth Sea Life Park this Thursday.

All Hail Crab Kong!

Crabzilla’s reign as the biggest crab ever seen in captivity has come to an end today (Feb 15th)…with the arrival of Crab Kong! He is now happily relaxing in a display tank at the Weymouth Sea Life Park in Dorset .
Japanese spider crab Crabzilla caused a sensation when she appeared briefly at Birmingham Sea Life Centre last summer…but with a claw span of over eight feet and weighing around 15 kilos, Crab Kong puts her firmly in the shade.

Staff at Weymouth Sea Life Park are all of a flutter over the news of some special guests arriving on Thursday (Jan 20th).
The Park’s resident Humboldt penguins are to welcome 10 of their most flamboyant and playful Antarctic cousins – five pairs of Gentoo penguins.
