Trailer Previews ‘Paul the Octopus’ Film
Devotees of the late Paul the Octopus are frantically ‘logging on’ to view a newly launched trailer of a forthcoming documentary of Paul’s life.
The clairvoyant octopus became a global household name after correctly predicting the results of eight straight World Cup matches from his tank at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre.
Already commemorated with a giant memorial statue at the Sea Life Centre, Paul will be further immortalised on film with the release of ‘The Life And Times Of Paul the Psychic Octopus’ this coming autumn.
Produced by award-winning Denver-based Cinema Vertige and New Zealand-based Smiley World Media, filming for the documentary was carried out in the US, Germany, Holland, France, Switzerland, Spain, Ireland, Greece, Austria, Italy and the UK.
Interviewees included Spanish World Cup squad members Joan Capdevila and Carlos Marchena; Sea Life staff and visitors; Paul’s agent Chris Davis; bookmakers Paddy Power and William Hill…plus expert statisticians, animal experts and many more.
Writer, director and producer Alexandre O Philippe described the documentary as “a biopic of tentacular proportions exploring celebrity mania at its most outrageous, the science of probabilities and the possibility of higher powers.”
