Our special exhibition in 2014- new in Munich!
All shapes, sizes and colours get up close to our dazzling collection of starfish from across the world’s oceans.
Generations of seaside visitors have marvelled at these jewels of the seabed, but never before have so many been gathered together in one amazing, star-spangled spectacle! Experience with the whole family this years special exhibit with more than 300 starfish and learn about these fascinating creatures. Observe this starfish world from an underwater perspective, take part in interactive activities, like painting starfish, and feel the different starfish surfaces or let the kids crawl through the tunnel of the starfish pool.
Starfish can have up to 40 arms! If they are threatened by a predator, they can drop an arm to escape and regrow it afterwards.
Starfish don't have blood - they have a system that pumps water through their body. Tiny tubes in their feet fill with water and also act as suckers so they can stick to rocks.
Discovered in 2007 the Paddle-Spined Starfish is just 6.5mm in diameter, which is the size of your little fingernail.
