Meet our Lionfish - also known as Pterois - a genus of venomous marine fish found mostly in the Indo-Pacific.
They are characterised by red, white and black bands, showy pectoral fins and venomous spiky fin rays. They prey on mostly small fish, invertebrates and mollusks in large amounts. Lionfish have very few natural predators, mostly due to their venomous spines. This can also be very hazardous to humans - best not to touch!

Things to do

  • Can you spot any hiding among the rocks?
  • If you are lucky enough to see them before 11am - have a peek and see what they are having a eat
