Where can I purchase/book my tickets?

We have many different options for booking and purchasing tickets. You can pre-book online, via our bookings and information line on 0871 423 2110* or on the day here at the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham. Please note that the only way to guarantee your entry is to pre-book your tickets. (*Calls to this number cost 13p per minute plus your providers access charge).

What do the time slots refer to? Can I stay longer than half an hour?

The different times refer to the time of entry; you need to arrive between these times. This is so that we can stagger visits throughout the day. You are welcome to spend as long as you like in the centre.

What happens if the card holder won't be present to collect tickets?

If the Debit or Credit card cannot be present you must ensure you have written confirmation from the credit/debit card holder to collect the tickets. This must include a short letter written, including the following details: Name of the person collecting the tickets and the card holders name/last 4 digits of 16 digit card number/ contact number of card holder and a written signature from the card holder. The person then collecting the tickets must have a form of photographic ID to match up with the letter to collect the tickets from the advance sales desk.

How many people does an online saver (2 or more) entitle to enter?

The 2 or more option is for everyone visiting in a group of 2 or more (ie not an individual), and this forms part of our family pricing strategy. For example if you select 2 people in the Online Saver (2 or more) option, this entitles 2 entries not 4.

Do you sell tickets for other attractions in the Midlands?

We have a great deal combination ticket with Warwick Castle, where you can visit both attractions (within 3 months of each other) with prices starting from £30. You must visit the National SEA LIFE Birmingham first, at this time you will be provided with a second ticket for use at Warwick Castle. Please note, your ticket for Warwick Castle will be valid for 3 months. Please check our tickets page for more details.

I'd like to change the time slot that I've chosen

If you arrive later or earlier than the time slot you've selected you may be subject to a small charge, as you may need to buy peak tickets, rather than off peak. If there is doubt as to what time you'll arrive, choose the most expensive time slot to ensure you won't be charged extra. You will still gain entry but you will lose your priority entry.

I have booked online and been charged twice, what should I do?

If you have been charged twice please contact our bookings line on 0871 423 2110 (Calls to this number cost 13p per minute plus your providers access charge) or alternatively email us at slcbirmingham@merlinentertainments.biz for further information and help.

Where do I need to queue?

When you arrive at the aquarium you will find that we have a general queue line (those who need tickets) and a priority queue line (those who already have tickets). Depending on which ticket you have purchased/wanting to purchase will depend on where you need to queue. Please ask one of our very friendly members of staff who will be more than happy to assist you and show you which queue to join.

Can we touch the creatures?

Do you have pop badges?

Yes we do! Each staff member you meet at the National SEA LIFE Birmingham Centre will have two Pop Badges on their lanyard. They are able to swap any of your spares with you.

  • Fair Swapping Guide for Collectors
  • Be considerate of other people’s collections and do not pressure them to swap something they may want to hold onto for their personal collection.
  • Staff love to swap their pop badges, however if they are occupying a ride or feeding our creatures there may be a small delay in swapping.
  • Collectors are responsible for their personal collection of pop badges and the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham cannot be held accountable for any losses that may occur on the premises.
  • For fair swapping, our pop badge policy is 1 badge for 1 badge per swap, regardless of the Pop Badge’s status or rarity.
  • Pop Badges are NOT for resale and hold no value. Do not pay someone for Pop Badges as they are making unlawful profit from the centre's intellectual property.

Careers with us

Since 1979, SEA LIFE has taken each and every one of its visitors on a fascinating journey of freshwater and marine life. Seeing the magic of the deep up close makes for the most spectacular underwater experience there is. And it is still as popular as ever.

While our breathtaking displays are reason enough to visit, there's so much more to the national SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham. We are masters of entertaining and educating and we play a huge part in the conservation of some of nature's most beautiful creations through breeding Seahorses, raising money for Zakynthos Turtle sanctuary and providing ‘Sustainable Good Fish Guides’ to our guests.

But it’s our fantastic dedicated teams, be they working front of house or behind the scenes that create the magical memorable experiences that remain with our guests for years to come.

Very few of our roles (such as Aquarist or Displays Team Member) require qualifications related to the ocean and its inhabitants; for the majority of roles we can teach you about our creatures, conservation and the environment. What we cannot teach you is a natural enthusiasm for customer and guest care, something that all members of our teams carry by the bucket load.

If you are as passionate about the ocean as we are and feel that you could create and deliver the best in memorable experiences you may see yourself in one of our roles!

What's involved in an Aquarist role?

Our displays live and breathe, so they’re not your normal attraction. We look to our Aquarists to maintain excellence in display presentation throughout all public and behind scenes areas of our displays. You’ll support the Curator and the rest of the Displays team in animal husbandry, while playing a huge part in the development of our amazing displays area.

Commercial Assistants

While our displays are among the most breath-taking our visitors will ever see, we do all we can to create an attraction they’ll never forget. Our Commercial Assistants ensure that all of our guests have the opportunity to take away a souvenir of their visit from any of our commercial units.

Guest Experience Assistants

Our Guest Experience Assistants provide a first class experience to the visitor through interaction and the provision of the quality entertainments and feeding programmes. They are responsible for presenting, maintaining and taking care of the touch pools, public talks, taking care of our school groups and general information to the visitors. The team strive to deliver a totally immersive experience and educate all of our guests (and that includes the adults!) through fun learning.

What is the selection process?

Successful applicants will be required to attend either an assessment centre and/or an interview.

What happens at an assessment centre?

This varies role to role though you will be required to complete short exercises in teams and attend an interview. This is the ideal opportunity for you to find out more about what it is like to work for us, and for us to find out more about you.

They are designed to help us select the right people for the business, and should also be enjoyable for you too!

What is the dress code at the assessment centre?

We'd say smart/casual but remember you're trying to make a good first impression!

What is the dress code?

Within our customer facing roles you are required to wear a uniform. We operate a fairly flexible policy on dress code in all non-uniform areas. In some roles you may even get the chance to wear a costume!

I need a work permit to work in the UK. Can I still apply?

Eligibility to work in the UK is a prerequisite for employment with Merlin. You will need to provide proof of right to work in the UK when you come in for an interview or assessment centre.
