Melbourne

Hold onto your snorkels the SEA LIFE TRUST’s 24 Hour Global Clean Up 2025 has officially made a splash! With nearly 1,000 ocean lovers, eco-heroes and everyday champions rolling up their sleeves across 39 locations worldwide, this year’s clean-up was another tidal wave of success.

Together, our incredible volunteers collected an amazing 2,216 kilograms of rubbish that’s the same weight as over 5,000 puffins or two fully grown giraffes! From the sunny shores of Sydney to city parks in Berlin and beaches in Blackpool, SEA LIFE fans showed the power of community when it comes to protecting our blue planet.

The goal; to raise awareness during World Oceans Week and tackle one of the biggest threats to marine life, litter. As always, the most common culprits were cigarette butts, plastic bags, fishing lines and bottle caps, which can all cause serious harm to sea creatures if left in the wild. But it wouldn’t be a Global Clean-Up without a few head scratchers.  This year’s oddest finds included a lone Croc shoe, assorted dog toys, and even a full-size bicycle! One volunteer joked it was like “a lucky dip for trash.”

And it’s not just about tidying up it’s about waking up. “SEA LIFE TRUST continues to champion the need for plastic free oceans,” said Graham McGrath, Director of SEA LIFE TRUST. “Our worldwide clean-up effort is a brilliant way for organisations, friends and families to come together and make maximum impact. You’re not just picking up litter you’re helping raise critical awareness of a global issue and showing how powerful we are when we work together.”
