Unexpected guest visits the National Seal Sanctuary

The National Seal Sanctuary performed an emergency rescue operation to save an injured badger.

The Sanctuary was first alerted to the injured animal after a visitor reported it to be crawling along a nearby road.

The Sanctuary’s Animal Care Team was quickly on the scene to investigate the badger’s whereabouts, but their initial efforts were in vain.

The badger was later found inside the Sanctuary’s grounds, trying to catch a lift on the shuttle bus. A rescue operation was then put into action.

Tamara, head of the Sanctuary’s Animal Care Team said:”it is so unusual to see badger’s out during the day, so we knew something wasn’t quite right.

“When we saw him stumbling in the undergrowth, we knew we had to get him some veterinary attention.”

All staff and Local Community Support office Ceri Saddler, was on hand to help rescue the badger amongst the Sanctuary’s 40 acre woodland. After an eventful rescue operation, the badger was finally captured and taken to The Cornwall Badger Rescue.

Operations Manager, Eileen Keeling explained: “We tracked the animal through the woods all afternoon, before finally rescuing it and passing it on to the experts.”

The badger will now face rehabilitation at Cornwall Badger Rescue.
