SEA LIFE Trust
Protecting the world´s oceans
SEA LIFE TRUST is a registered charity working globally to protect the world’s oceans and the amazing marine life that lives within them.
SEA LIFE TRUST’s vision is of a world where our seas are healthy, protected and full of diverse life.
In partnership with the global SEA LIFE aquarium chain, SEA LIFE Trust is able to reach a huge audience. They run inspiring conservation campaigns and fund projects and education programmes that champion the need for plastic-free oceans, sustainable fishing, effective Marine Protected Areas and an end to over-exploitation of marine life.
They also own and operate their own marine wildlife sanctuaries.
The world’s first beluga whale sanctuary
The SEA LIFE TRUST is pleased to announce that thanks to a very generous donation from Merlin Entertainments they have built the world’s first beluga whale sanctuary in Iceland!
In 2019 two previously captive belugas, Little White and Little Grey, began an epic 6,000 mile journey that took them from a Shanghai aquarium to a new ocean home in a beautiful Icelandic bay. Their release into the sanctuary happened August 2020.
This highly significant event was the first time that captive beluga whales had ever been released to an ocean sanctuary and it was only thanks to the support received from the project partners – SEA LIFE, Merlin Entertainments and Whale and Dolphin Conservation, that Little White and Little Grey were able to make this significant journey.
