The Big Fish
Campaign

The Big Fish Campaign helps home aquarium owners buy fish responsibly.

Did you know?

Did you hear that fish will only grow to a size relative to their tank? Don’t be fooled – it’s a myth!

At SEA LIFE London we continue to support The Big Fish Campaign by educating our visitors on the issues surrounding the purchase of certain species of fish for a home aquarium. Some species can very quickly outgrow a small tank… it’s a big problem!

In fact most of the enormous fish you can see in our Rainforest Area were rescued by the aquarium when they outgrew their owner's home tanks. Zoos and aquariums across the country are running out of room to rescue all of the big fish.

So The Big Fish Campaign helps to promote responsible buying and selling of these larger species of fish, including Pacus – these relatives of piranha fish can grow almost a metre long!

Fun Fact!

Never buy a pet fish unless you are sure that you will be able to adequately house it when it is fully grown.
