Attraction location map

Turtles are ancient reptiles that have been around for over 200 million years. They shared our planet with the earliest dinosaurs.

There are over 300 species of turtle in our oceans and rivers today, and on land too. There are seven species of sea turtles – nearly all are critically endangered. They are hunted for their beautiful shells, meat and eggs, and are often caught in fishing nets.

Sea turtles often mistake plastic bags floating in the ocean for jellyfish, their favourite food. Thousands die every year choking on plastic bags.

SEA LIFE has a long history of working with the rescue and care of injured sea turtles; you can find out more about our conservation projects on our global home page.
Many of our aquariums provide long-term homes for turtles who would not survive in the wild. You might meet one of them on your next visit!
