Rays!

Rays are one of the most graceful and beautiful creatures, though many people think rays look odd with their mouths on their underside and their eyes on top.

They spend most of their time lying partially buried on the ocean floor hiding from predators, like sharks, or waiting for prey to swim by. There are many species of rays including stingrays, Eagle Rays, Butterfly Rays, Manta Rays, Electric Rays, Saw Fish and Guitar Fish.

Rays belong to the same family as sharks!

Rays breathe through special holes behind their eyes.

Many rays produce eggs in an oblong case which is also known as a “mermaid’s purse” – you can sometimes find these washed up on beaches.
