Dangerous looking, but shy at heart

Their sharp teeth make the moray eel look dangerous. However, they are shy creatures and spend most of their time hidden in their burrows to avoid wasting energy.

Moray eels can be found in the Mediterranean Sea as well as in the northeast Atlantic. The largest moray eel species in the world live on reefs in tropically warm seas. They live in depths of up to several hundred meters, hidden in cracks and niches. There they also prefer to eat what is available at the moment.

Did you know that the moray eel body is a single muscle? Morays are so flexible that they get knotted while tearing pieces out of their food.
