Rudd are schooling fish that mainly live in stagnant, densely overgrown waters.
As Rudd also reproduce with other fish species, genetically pure Rudd have become very rare.
The fish can detect approaching predators via their lateral line, as they can sense slight movements. However, they can ignore this ‘warning system’ in strong waves, giving their predators an easy game.
Rudd and roach are very similar and therefore difficult to tell apart. However, you can tell them apart by their mouths: The Rudd has a mouth that is higher up. They can also be distinguished by the roach's eponymous red eye, as the Rudd has a more yellow-golden eye.
