Giant Leaf Insect
Did you know?
The giant leaf insect (lat. Siliquofera grandis) looks like a real leaf - complete with veins and “bite marks.” This is how it protects itself from predators. Females have an ovipositor on their abdomen for laying eggs.
The animals live in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and usually stay in the treecrowns. The vegetarians feed exclusively on leaves, such as blackberry, oak, or rose leaves.
They usually move slowly and swaying to look like a leaf in the wind. Giant leaf insects can “fly” when they are fleeing.
