The longsnout seahorse
The longsnout seahorse is a rather leisurely creature. In order to get its favourite food, plankton, it does not move around much, but lies in wait.

The Australian pot-bellied seahorse
Compared to other seahorse species, Australian pot-bellied seahorses are quite good swimmers and can cover several hundred metres a day.

The next generation of seahorses
Did you know, that the dads carry the seahorse babies? Up to 1,000 mini seahorses are born here per birth. At just 5 millimetres in size, the animals are really tiny!

What do seahorses actually eat?
The animals prefer to feed on larvae, mysis (mini floating shrimps) and small amphipods. In the aquarium, they are supplied with these at feeding stations.

Who is related to the seahorse?
Pipefish are the direct relatives of seahorses! Both animals are rather elongated and swim vertically through the water.

Where are potential dangers lurking?
The greatest danger is the pollution of the oceans. In addition, many animals end up as bycatch in fishing nets. But the illegal trade in seahorses is also a major threat to the animal population.
