Turtles are age-old reptiles that have been roaming the earth for over 200 million years!
They shared the planet with the first dinosaurs and today more than 300 different species live in rivers and oceans.
Some of these species are at great risk of extinction. The biggest dangers to escape from, are human fishing for shell or eggs, meat or plastic pollution that turtles end up eating or contaminate the water.

The temperature of the sand where turtle eggs are buried determines the gender of the babies. If it is hot it will be female and if it is colder it will be male.
