20th March 2020

As part of the Government’s containment plan for the COVID-19 coronavirus, we have been advised to temporarily close SEALIFE Scarborough. The move is consistent with the closure of other leisure venues to prevent further outbreak. The closure is effective as of 20th March 2020.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely, please refer to our websites and social channels for further updates on a date when we will reopen.

Meet our colony of adorable Humboldt penguins...

Let them teach you how to waddle!

Get up close and personal to over 20 adorable Humboldt Penguins in their unique walk-through home, Penguin Island!

Penguin Island was Sea Life Europe's first immersive penguin walkthrough experience opening in 2015! Since then, we've welcomed thousands of visitors who have all had the chance to get up close and personal to the most comical creatures at the Centre. Make sure you have your camera handy - there will be plenty of selfie moments!

All of our penguins are named after cartoon characters - see if you can spot Dangermouse, Hazel, Barnacles and the rest of the waddle, as they splash out in their babbling waterfall and dive into the pool!

See how you measure up against the penguins around the world on the height chart! Are you short like a rock-hopper or larger than an emperor?

Things to do

  • Visit Yorkshire's only Seal Hospital

Meet this year’s seal pup patients rehabilitating in our specialist Seal Hospital facility. All of the pups you see at SEA LIFE Scarborough have been found injured around our local coastal waters and we nurse them back to full health before releasing them back into the wild.

  • Rescue a turtle at the Turtle Rescue Centre

Find out what it takes to rescue, rehabilitate and release turtles back into the wild in our new interactive Turtle Rescue Centre. You'll need to pick up your very own turtle upon entry and give it a name before taking it through a sequence of rehabilitation until its fit for release back into the wild.

  • Take a walk under the Ocean

Ever wanted to walk on the Ocean floor? Well, now you can. Take a stroll through our incredible 200,000l Ocean Tunnel and be mesmerised by the incredible beauty that lives within. See our rescued Loggerhead Sea Turtle, Antiopi, glide effortlessly around and watch out for our Blacktip Reef Sharks - they might look scary, but they're soft really!
