Come discover the ways scientists identify sea turtles by examining sea turtle shells, and dietary habits! In this hands-on lab your students will come face to face with a real sea turtle shell, jellyfish and record the differences between sea turtle species. This lesson introduces and builds upon scientific investigating and analysis skills while keeping the attention and fascination of a young audience,

Explore the way plastic pollution moves through our oceans by creating a mini-ocean right here at Sea Life Arizona! In this lab students will learn and practice data collecting skills by recording what happens to plastics as they enter a marine habitat and what happens to the animals that call those habitats home. This lesson helps strengthen graph making skills while being hands on, engaging and wet!
3rd Grade: S1C3PO1-5, S4C3PO5
4th Grade: S1C2PO1-5, S3C1PO1-2
5th Grade: S1C1PO1-2, S1C2PO1-5
Bioaccumulation! Usually a vocabulary word for college students, however in this creative lab, students will learn what happens to animals that ingest plastic, and how the natural adaptations of these animals might harm them in a plastic polluted environment! Students must develop a working “feeding” device which allows them to obtain the most “energy points”, but watch out for the plastic pollution or else your creature won’t be fit enough make it to the next round!
6th Grade: S1C4PO1-5, S3C2PO1-4
7th Grade: S2C2PO3, S3C1PO1-PO2, S4C3PO-6
8th Grade: S3C1PO1-2, S4C4PO3
This hands-on lab explores major concepts which drive our oceans. Students will learn/ exercise delicate lab techniques, critical thinking skills, and deductive reasoning by exploring major factors which rule our planet. Topics covered in this lab are: salinity, ocean currents, impacts of anthropological caused pollution, and possible solutions. Each topic has a quick fun lab and demonstration which will amaze students of many ages, and provoke conversation in the classroom!
