Leaf scorpionfish

Did you know...?

  • Leaf scorpionfish have a flat, leaf-shaped body and use it for camouflage. If something gets too close to them, they begin to rock like a leaf in the waves. Hence their name.
  • They belong to the lurking hunters and mostly rest between algae and corals until small fish or crustaceans swim by. Then they swing unnoticed in the direction of their prey and suck it up at lightning speed.
  • The leaf scorpionfish sheds its skin every 10 to 14 days, peeling off its skin in one piece.
