Gardens eel

Did you know...?

  • Gardens eels are common in current-rich shallow water regions with tropical temperatures in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as in the Red Sea.
  • They live in colonies of a few to thousands of animals, on sandy ground in tubes that they dig themselves with their hard, sharp digging tail and solidify with a secretion.
  • The gardens eels are very shy animals. That is why they always stayin their tubes with their abdomen and withdraw at lightning speed as soon as danger is seen from a distance.
