The red-footed tortoises are one of the larger species of tortoise. They can be up to 50 cm tall and weigh over 20 kg.
With their long legs, their way of walking looks like they're walking on stilts. In this way, the animals can easily get through areas with swampy ground.
The tortoises live in very different habitats: They are at home in the dry country to the tropical rainforest and within forests. Among the different habitats, the tortoises show significant differences in size and weight, but also in color of the shell.
