- Whiptail Stingrays are widely spread. They live in the Indo-Pacific region and on the coasts of Australia. But there are also species in the Atlantic and the North Sea.
- They have five gill slits, no dorsal or caudal fin
- The tail spines are partially barbed and covered by glandular tissue that contains poison. The tail spine is mainly used for security purposes.
