Shark Nursery

FUN FACT

Shark egg cases are called Mermaids Purses.

In the shark nursery pool you will see our newly hatched tropical brown banded bamboo and white spotted bamboo sharks alongside our baby blue spotted stingrays.

The white spotted bamboo shark is a carpet shark with an adult size that approaches one metre in length but when born is just 15cm.

Adult brown banded bamboo sharks are overall brownish with faint suggestions of bands, the juveniles here are distinctly barred dark and pale so you can see where they got their name from.

As well as these sharks in our nursery pool you can also ask the team here about other breeding pairs of sharks here at the centre. We have pairs of Bowmouth Guitar Sharks, Guitar Shovelnose and Black Tip Reef Sharks that we also hope to breed. Please keep an eye on Shark Mission as you might hear the pitter patter of tiny fins soon!

Feeding Times

Don’t miss our Shark feed daily in the main ocean display at 2:30pm
