Meet our King and Gentoo Penguins!
Here at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, we have 2 species of Sub-Antarctic penguins: King penguins and Gentoo penguins.
Did You Know?
Emperor Penguins are the largest species of penguin growing up to around 120cm tall while the smallest species is the Little Penguin, growing to only 30cm tall.
Despite not being able to take flight in the sky, penguins use their flippers to fly through the water.
Over half of all penguin species are listed as endangered. Penguin populations are threatened by oil spills, bycatch, overfishing, habitat loss and climate change.

Did You Know?
Manly is home to the last Little Penguin colony on mainland NSW. With others now only found on offshore islands, their nesting sites here are protected as critical habitat.
Phillip Island is home to Australia’s largest Little Penguin colony, with 40,000 breeding penguins on the Summerland Peninsula. They’re the smallest penguin species, and the only ones with blue and white feathers.
Little Penguins are hands-on parents. Both take turns feeding and caring for their chick, working together to keep them warm, well-fed, and growing strong.
