Protecting Marine Creatures

Seahorses

The SEA LIFE Trust is a marine conservation charity working globally to protect seahorses from habitat destruction and overfishing for the medicine and curio trades. We want to put an end to the cruel and unsustainable collection of seahorses for the medicine and curio trades as well as protecting the habitats on which they depend.

Seahorses As Medicine

Each year, over 150 million seahorses are taken from the wild for use in the medicine trade.

Souvenirs

Roughly another million seahorses are caught each year for the curio trade. They are hung out alive in the sun to dry and then made into ornaments and tourist souvenirs.

Scientific Claims

There is no scientific evidence to support claims from medicine trade that say seahorses have the power to cure all kind of ailments from asthma, to insomnia, to impotence.
