Make a Splash this Summer!

  • Things To Do, Holidays

Aaaah the summer holidays, a full six weeks to spend time with family! This also means trying to think of things to do to get them out of the house (and your hair). We know how hard it is to do this for a weekend, never mind for a full six weeks, so we’ve put together five ideas for you to keep your little ones entertained these school holidays.

  1. Visit the Great Barrier Reef at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium

You heard right! The brand new Day and Night exhibition at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is a magical experience that takes you on a journey of wonder and discovery through a whole day and night in the depths of the Great Barrier Reef. It is now the largest Great Barrier Reef Display in the world (cool, huh!) and features state-of-the art technology that allows you to interact with the different areas. Splash through bioluminescent waves that light up under your feet, watch sea turtles hatch and come to life and much, much more.

  1. Soak up the Buzz of Darling Quarter

This newly developed wonderland is fun for the whole family. Darling Harbour contains a 4,000 square metre playground suitable for children of all ages, ping-pong, yoga, art exhibitions, many cafes and restaurants and pop-up markets, just to name a few of the fun things!

  1. Find the Best Water Slide in Sydney

The school holidays are the perfect time to explore places further from home than usual, and your kids are bound to love the adventure of finding their favourite water slides. Here’s a few to get you started:

  • Aquatopia at Prairiewood Leisure Centre
  • Botany Bay Pool
  • Emerton Leisure Centre
  • Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre
  • Manly Surf n Slide (was Manly Waterworks)
  • Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre
  • Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre

  1. Get on Your Bike

Hop on your bike and explore the city, your local neighbourhood or somewhere new. It’s great exercise and something you can do for as little or as long as you like. Check out the best bike tracks in Sydney by suburb here.

  1. Become a Rockpool Explorer

Summer is the perfect time to make a splash at your local beach and discover the amazing eco-systems found in rockpools along Sydney's Harbour foreshore. There is so much to learn from exploring the sandstone formations and nothing beats the rush of finding a crab, a starfish or even slimy seaweed! Just remember that the rockpool is the animal’s home and to leave them undisturbed.
