This month is Plastic Free July!

Currently in the world there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in our ocean, weighing up to 269,000 tonnes. A plastic bag being the deepest known piece of plastic at a depth of 10,975 meters (36,000 feet) found in the Mariana Trench.

Studies have found that single-use plastic is the most prevalent pollution found, taking hundreds of years to break down once in the wild.

Wondering what you can do to replace your plastic? Here are 5 ways you can stop using single-use plastic and help protect our marine life.

  1. REPLACE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES

Replace your plastic water bottles with a Stainless steal water bottle instead. Stainless steel water bottles can last years, reducing your plastic consumption. Plus they can come in lots of fun colours and patterns.

  2. REPLACE PLASTIC CONTAINERS

Replace your plastic containers with glass containers. These can easily be washed after each use.

  3. REPLACE PLASTIC STRAWS

Replace your straws with an aluminium straw. Straws are one of the biggest users in single-use plastic. Aluminium straws you can take with you when you eat out, in case they don’t have an alternative to plastic straws.

  4. REPLACE PLASTIC TRASH BAGS

Replace your plastic rubbish bags with  compostable trash bags. These are made from potato starch and have no plasticizers whatsoever.
