Join our Global Beach Clean Up!

Calling all nature lovers in Melbourne! This Saturday, June 8th join our BIGGEST ever beach clean-up in support of World Oceans Day 2019. Communities from 50 different SEA LIFE aquariums around the world (AU, USA, UK and beyond) will be armed with gloves and bags to clean parks and beaches, and we need all the volunteers we can get. It’s a great way to get kids involved in sustainable activities. Calling little kids and big kids; no matter where you live here’s everything you need to know to be part of this big day.
The Big Event
It’s time for the 24-Hour Global Beach Clean Up, organised by SEA LIFE Trust charity. Join our fun and friendly crew at SEA LIFE Melbourne or participate yourself at your local beach, park or river. Spread the word; the more, the merrier!

DIY Clean Up
If you can’t join the SEA LIFE Melbourne crew – no worries! Carry out a little clean up wherever you can this Saturday, and tag us #24HourGlobalBeachClean so we can find you. Every little bit of trash counts!
Take Action
Round up family and friends or come alone. Our team will greet you on arrival, with gloves and trash bags at the ready. We’ll also be holding a sausage sizzle – free of charge – with vegetarian sausages too, and handing out 20% off vouchers for SEA LIFE Melbourne. Bring smiles, wear comfy shoes, and remember to slip, slop, slap. In the case of weather disruptions, our team leader on the day will let you know what happens next.

Tag #24HourGlobalBeachClean to share your progress and accomplishments. It’ll help us discover what waste you find and where. By using this hashtag, you’ll also automatically be in the running to win the latest Olympus Tough T5 camera! Why Are We Doing This?
Plastic does not simply 'go away.' It can take thousands of years to fully decompose. Sadly, it's estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enters the world's oceans each year. By 2050, the oceans could have more plastic than fish.
Not only do we want pristine oceans for generations to come; plastic pollution also harms precious wildlife with marine species mistaking plastic for food. Plastic pollution also makes coral reefs, like our beloved Great Barrier Reef, very sick. Coral reefs support the highest marine biodiversity in the world, and 500 million people depend on them for food, jobs and recreation.
That's why this World Oceans Day, for the first time, SEA LIFE Trust charity is organising the 24-Hour Global Beach Clean Up on 8 June 2019. Young or old, we welcome ALL volunteers. Let’s make a positive difference together.
Did You Know We Host Regular Clean-ups?
That's right. Throughout the year, volunteers from SEA LIFE Melbourne host clean-ups to help prevent single-use plastic such as bottles, straws and bags from entering the Yarra River and flowing out to sea. Look out for our next clean-up.
