The Coolest Teenager Activities in Melbourne

  • Friday 6th September 2019

It can be hard to impress teenagers and older kids, so here are some things to keep up your sleeve in case of a boredom emergency! When they’re idle and looking for something to do, why not suggest one of the following activities.

Experience Shark Dive Xtreme

Experience Shark Dive Xtreme

At SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium, a shark encounter is guaranteed. Let your teenage daredevils loose underwater with our gorgeous Grey Nurse sharks, massive rays, sawfish and groupers, to name a few creatures. With some of our sharks measuring up to 3 metres in length, there’s no way they can call that lame! Get some serious parent points by capturing a pic of their dive so they can share it on their socials. For ages 14+, this is a super safe way to see these beautiful animals. Your ticket includes all-day admission to the aquarium, so they can keep exploring all day. Book your Shark Dive Xtreme experience here.

Visit Queen Victoria Market

Visit Queen Victoria Market

All the cool kids head to Melbourne’s bustling ‘Queen Vic’ market. Give your teen your shopping list and let them wander and walk through at their own pace. For fresh fruit and veggies, gourmet foods and trendy clothing and trinkets galore, there’s no better place. Let them spend their pocket or hard-earned dollars on a delicious treat from the famous American Doughnut Kitchen served out of a 1950s van.

See Street Art

See Street Art

As one of the street art capitals of the world, going on a Melbourne mural-hunt is a very teenage-appropriate adventure. Send them out with this Street Art Map showing the best spots, and give them the extra challenge of capturing a photo of their favourite sites which you can all admire at home. This is a parent-friendly pass time too; don’t forget to visit Hosier Lane. You can even see an example of Melbourne street art right outside of SEA LIFE Melbourne! Joining forces with celebrated street artist, Mike Makatron, this space features an 83 square metre mural; an underwater world with dancing jellyfish!

Get a Penguin Passport

Get a Penguin Passport

This is your teen’s arctic access to catch a glimpse of these super-cool creatures. Visit our penguin colony and convene with our King and Gentoo penguins on the ice. After you suit up in snow gear, spend 45 minutes discovering the home of these black-and-white birds,  including a behind-the-scenes sneak-peek of our meal prep and veterinary areas. These beloved birds have some amazing rituals; Gentoo penguins even propose to their mate with a pebble. What’s not to love! Imagine the selfies your teen can get alongside these tuxedo-marked animals.

Ten Pins for Teens

If you’ve got teens in tow, leg it to one of the city’s bowling lanes. They can take on you or their mates in a friendly competition and take selfies in the vintage-looking shoes. Some venues even host social comps so your teenagers can meet new people while they strengthen their community social circle. If they’ve never bowled before, this is an excellent opportunity to try something new and strive to score a strike.

Out of Town

Go mountain biking at Lysterfield Park. With 10 trails, ranging from easy to extremely difficult, the marvellous biking tracks total 20km of fun. In a beautiful bush setting, these hardened surface tracks feature unpredictable natural terrain and are practically tailor-made for teens. The State Mountain Bike Competition Course, which was built for the 2006 Commonwealth Games, is a course that will challenge riders of all abilities.
