10 Reasons to Visit the Sunshine Coast

  • Tuesday 30th April 2019

With 300 days of sunshine, beautiful beaches, stunning drives and a thriving arts scene, there's more than one reason to visit the Sunshine Coast. Here are 10 great things to do, whether you’re on a day trip or week trip.

1. Seaside Heaven for All

Beaches, bays, oceanside lap pools, you name it – Sunny Coast has it all. A vibrant family-favourite is Kings Beach in Caloundra. There’s a grassy foreshore, playgrounds, BBQ facilities and a free saltwater pool for kids, decked out with shade sails. What’s not to love?

2. Find Nature to Enjoy

The strip between Mooloolaba and Noosa never feels crowded. So pick a spot; any spot! Coolum Beach has pristine turquoise waters, and it’s by an oceanfront skate park with a boardwalk lining the laidback Esplanade that leads to an incredible lookout.

3. On The Ocean

Sit back and relax between Tewantin and Noosa Heads with an all-day ferry pass. It’s a fun way to stopover for a long swim at the beach, or go for a stroll and shop. If you want to take it easy – enjoy the view while you try to spot a bird or two.

4. Scenic Road Adventures

It’s the journey, not the destination, right? Well, that’s for sure in the Sunshine Coast with its fantastic weather and nature. Hit the road and head up the coastal strip from Caloundra. Sunshine Beach beside Noosa National Park is the perfect way to end the day.

5. Traverse Lush Mountains

Driving through the Blackall Range Hinterland is a feast for the eyes and soul. You’ll pass boutique wineries and galleries, and the whole family can enjoy rainforest walks and lookouts that are perfect picnic points.

6. Top Australian Markets

Markets are an Australian lifestyle. It’s all about the joy of finding fresh produce, homemade treats, locally designed fashion and lively buskers! The original Eumundi Markets is famous for good reason, but the beachside Currimundi Lake Twilight Markets and the Gympie Southside Markets with its pony rides are just as memorable.

7. Fine Art Galleries

Find original art by Australian artists from the region and throughout Australia. Art on Cairncross displays glasswork, porcelain and ceramics, while Montville Art Gallery features paintings and sculptures from over 45 artists.

8. Sealy Good

Visit Seal Island at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast (formerly Underwater World) and catch a daily presentation which will fin you over! Through our informative and fun interactives, you can find out all about these incredible creatures. From the viewing areas, watch them nimbly dart through the water and waddle on land. And if you want to get even closer, you can take part in our seal swim experience.

9. Explore an Ocean Tunnel

SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast also lets you explore the depths of the ocean – without getting wet! Explore the three distinct zones of the tunnel where you can experience huge sharks, majestic rays and colourful reef fish swimming above and around you.

10. The Wharf Mooloolaba

The Wharf holds the beachside town charm of its 80s origin and now has a buzzing, modern twist. There’s something for everyone, including boutique shops, delicious food, SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast and watersport equipment hire. A full day well spent!
