6 Day Trips from Brisbane

  • Wednesday 6th March 2019

Brisbane is a unique urban adventure; once you’ve shopped, wined, dined and discovered the city, it’s time to see what the greater area has up its sleeve. Within just two hours drive, there’s a whole host of day trips to delight and dish up some incredible adventure. Here are five day trips to get you started.

Mooloolaba

If you’re keen for some sand and surf, make for Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast. Only 1.5 hours from the city, this place delivers on beach bliss, as well as a plethora of places to grab a bite. Choose your fare from a collection of waterfront cafes or head to the Surf Club for the true beachside eating experience. If you’re looking for a leisurely lunch overlooking the Mooloolah River, try The Wharf Mooloolaba.

SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast

This all-weather attraction lets you lay your eyes on over 10,000 sea creatures. From our incredible collection of jellyfish and rare weedy sea dragons to over 20 species of sharks and rays. If you want a closer look, opt for the Seal Encounter where you can get so close to one of our seals – you’ll be able to smell their fishy breath. Or, for an immersive experience –  jump in the water for the Seal Swim. Don’t miss the awe-inspiring 80m Ocean Tunnel for a one-of-a-kind view of our curious underwater creatures.

Book your SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast tickets online in advance and save up to 20%.

North Stradbroke Island

In just two hours, including the drive and ferry, you could be standing on the world’s second largest sand island. This is paradise for visitors, featuring freshwater lagoons, your choice of 5 pristine beaches, surf spots and whale-watching lookouts too. For lunch with a stellar view, head to the popular Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel.

Mt Coolum

If you’re more of a walker than a beach fan, Mt Coolum is a quick 15-minute drive from the city. The way up is quite a climb, but once you’re standing on the summit of this volcanic dome, you’re in for some spectacular views. Cast your eyes over the coast and take in the wildflowers and abundant birdlife; keep a lookout for the Peregrine Falcons. Allow 1.5 hours return, and don’t forget your water and camera.

Montville

Head for the rolling green hinterland, just 1.5 hours drive north of Brisbane. If you’re longing for some small town time, to get a reprieve from the pace of the city, this picturesque place is your antidote to the hustle and bustle. Enjoy the mountain vistas, peruse the galleries and shops on the high street, and grab some lunch at one of the cute cafes. If it’s hot and sunny, stop at the nearby Kondalilla Falls for a quick swim.

Eumundi Markets

This one-of-a-kind market is a day trip delight. Selling locally made artisan treasure for over 30 years, it’s open every Wednesday and Saturday. Whether it’s raining or the sun’s out, the local artists share their talents at Australia’s largest art and craft market. Peruse unique homewares, art and ceramics, distinctive fashion and jewellery, as well as farm fresh, gourmet and baked goods. When you need a break from your browsing – get a massage or find a spot to take in the musicians and street performers.
