Holiday baby boom at SEA LIFE!
A baby boom has hit SEA LIFE Mooloolaba with the birth of three female Blacktip sharks and two Blue-spotted stingrays.
The young stingrays, now four weeks old, share a birthday with Princess Charlotte of the House of Windsor and have been named after the baby princess and her brother George.
Known also as the Blue-spotted ribbontail ray, the beautiful camouflage-coloured creature with its blue spots a safety beacon for other creatures to stay away from its poisonous potential, it can generally be found living near the bottom of warm Indo-West Pacific waters.
The three shark sisters who are still a tiny two weeks old, are some of the first baby sharks to be born at the SEA LIFE Mooloolaba and at only 50cm in length are still un-named.
Generally not considered dangerous to humans due to their small size, this near threatened species is most commonly encountered species in tropical Indo-Pacific waters and found in shallows around coral reefs and found in very shallow waters of 30cm or less.
Our beautiful new babies can be seen daily in Zone 1 and 4 of the aquarium.
