  • What is your role at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast?

Hello, I am the Mammals Manager here at SLSC. I get to look after some pretty amazing animals including the seals and penguins.

  • How long have you worked at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast?

I started in September 2019 after recently returning to Australia.

  • What does an average day looks like for you?

First things first, I always go and check on each individual animal. Making sure they are all ok and had a good night’s sleep. I then check in with my team and plan our day out. . Throughout the day I will train, fed and observe the seals and penguins. We also need to make sure their LSS is working and tend to exhibit cleanliness and maintenance. There are always meetings that need to be attended to. As well as having some fun with our guests.

  • What is your favourite animal?

Tough question……I would have to say pinnipeds or cetaceans. They have sooo many incredible adaptations and adaptabilities that still amaze me.

  • Why do you love working with animals?

I love working with animals because every day is different. They all have their own unique personalities and behaviours that I get to enjoy and experience . I also take pride in giving back to the environment, by looking after the animals in our care.

  • What is a conservation message you would like to share that will help protect our animals?

Its up to each and every one of us to make an effort to assist those animals out in the wild. Simply by picking up rubbish on the beach can assist and have a huge impact in protecting marine animals and their environment. Marine animals are such amazing animals but are best to just be observed, respected and appreciated  from a distance. In doing so we can all help to ensure these animals are around for years to come and for future generations to enjoy.
