Ocean Youth Program Now Enrolling

  • Tuesday 10th January 2017

Are you aged 12-15 years of age and love the ocean, then this could be for you

The SEA LIFE Trust has today announced the launch of its Ocean Youth Program for 2017 at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast – an initiative aimed at empowering young passionate ocean lovers to take action and do their bit to protect our ocean for future generations.

Applications are now open for 20 young Queenslanders aged between 12 and 15 to become an ‘Ocean Youth Ambassador’ and take part in the 12 month program. The program will arm young likeminded environmental enthusiasts with the knowledge and tools to launch ocean conservation projects to make a positive difference in their local community.

While the Ocean Youth Program focuses on conservation and sustainability projects, the skills acquired during the program are skills for life. Students will be working on presentation, communication and project management abilities, with a focus on these key building blocks for their future education.

The program is very hands on, with several day trips and activities planned. This is much more than your average school holidays style program, it’s a real chance for passionate kids to learn from industry leaders, put plans into action and make a real difference with their projects.

Ocean Youth Ambassadors will discover tools of the trade from leading experts on how to use social media to build their profile, how to campaign to save the places and animals they love, how to fundraise so they can support the causes they are passionate about, how to use various media (video, audio, writing, blogs) to tell their story, plus so much more!

Over the twelve months students will hear from some of the leading groups in conservation including, Reef Check Australia and Sunshine Coast Turtle Care.  Students will also get to take part in marine based activities including swimming with whales, snorkelling and having their photo taken with a seal.

Pioneering the strong ethical and environmental values BREED, RESCUE and PROTECT in all areas of operation, the SEA LIFE Trust, together with SEA LIFE Aquariums across Australia and New Zealand are committed to conserving Australia's unique aquatic animals and their habitats.
