Vale Teiko

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our oldest Australian sea lion Teiko - who passed away on the weekend of the 27th of May 2023, aged 26. The average lifespan of Australian sea lions is between 17-25 years.

Teiko was born here at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium in 1997, as part of a breeding program, and was a very special sea lion – adored by guests, staff, and the local community- many of whom grew up with her.

She delighted guests and trainers with her playful personality and was always the ‘star’ of the seal presentations and swim experiences.

Teiko lived a rich life, but sadly her health deteriorated due to age related conditions. The compassionate animal team and dedicated veterinarians at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast provided unwavering care and support.
