How many shark species live at SEA LIFE Sydney?

We’re home to 13 incredible shark species, from the iconic Grey Nurse Shark to Wobbegongs, Blacktip Reef Sharks, and more. You’ll even find some baby sharks in our nursery zone!

What is Shark Valley?

Shark Valley is our stunning walk-through oceanarium. It’s where you can see sharks swimming all around you, and sometimes right overhead, in one of the deepest indoor exhibits in the world.

Can I dive with the sharks?

Yes! Shark Dive Xtreme is one of the only cage-less shark dives in the world where no scuba experience is needed. You’ll come face-to-fin with Grey Nurse Sharks in an experience you’ll never forget.

Are the sharks dangerous?

Despite their reputation, our sharks are calm, curious, and incredibly misunderstood. The species at SEA LIFE Sydney are not a danger to guests and are cared for by expert aquarists.

What conservation work do you do for sharks?

We actively support shark conservation through rescue and rehab work, breeding endangered species like the grey nurse shark, and contributing to global rewilding efforts. Learn more in our conservation section above.

Do you feed the sharks? Can I watch?

Yes! Our aquarists feed the sharks regularly, and visitors can often watch during scheduled feeding sessions. Check the daily program for timings and be sure to catch a keeper talk.

Is the shark tunnel suitable for young kids?

Absolutely. Shark Valley is a gentle, accessible walk-through experience perfect for all ages, and a favourite for little ones with big imaginations. Please note, ramps can sometimes be too steep for wheelchair users if they do not have anyone with them to provide assistance.

Do sharks really have personalities?

They do! Like cats and dogs, individual sharks can show different temperaments. Some are shy, some bold, and others just curious about their environment.

World Teachers' Day 2026 Competition Terms & Conditions Promoter The Promoter of this competition is Merlin Entertainments Group Pty Ltd (ABN 51 147 624 557), trading as SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium and WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, of 1-5 Wheat Road, Sydney ("Promoter"). This competition is run in partnership with Twinkl Ltd (Company No. 07201458) ("Twinkl"). Eligibility Entry is open to school teachers currently employed at a registered school in Australia, aged 18 years or over. Employees (and immediate families of employees) of the Promoter, Twinkl, and any agencies associated with this promotion are not eligible to enter. Limit of one entry per person. The Promoter reserves the right to verify a teacher's employment status before confirming a winner. Promotion Period The opening date for entries is 00:01 AEDT 1st October 2026. The closing date is 23:59 AEDT 1st November 2026. Entries received after this time will not be considered. How to Enter To enter, eligible teachers must visit landing page URL during the Promotion Period and submit a written response of 100 words or fewer to the prompt: "How do you bring ocean or wildlife conservation to life in your classroom?" Entrants must provide their full name, school name, school email address, and state/territory, and opt in to receive communications from Twinkl and Merlin Entertainments (SEA LIFE Sydney / WILD LIFE Sydney). One entry per person. Incomplete, illegible, or late entries will be deemed invalid. The Prize One (1) winning class will receive a day trip for up to 35 students plus accompanying teachers/carers, with the prize limited to the inclusions expressly set out below. Any costs not expressly included are the responsibility of the winning school. ● Return coach transfer from a location within a 30 km radius of Sydney CBD (postcode 2000) to SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium and WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo; ● General entry to both attractions; ● A curriculum-linked education session at each venue; and ● Lunch on the day for all attending students and staff. Total approximate prize value: $3,800 AUD (based on standard group booking rates at the date of publication). The prize is not transferable, exchangeable, or redeemable for cash, in whole or in part. Costs outside the above (e.g. additional staffing, incidentals) are the responsibility of the winning school. Prize value will not exceed $4,500 AUD. Prize Redemption The prize must be redeemed during Term 4 2026 or Term 1 2027, on a date mutually agreed between the winning school and the Promoter. The prize is subject to availability and standard operating capacity at each attraction; blackout dates may apply during peak periods or public holidays. The Promoter will work with the winning school to confirm a date within 2 weeks of winner notification. If the prize cannot be redeemed within this window due to circumstances attributable to the winning school, it may be forfeited at the Promoter's discretion. Judging & Winner Notification All valid entries will be judged by a panel comprising one (1) representative from Twinkl and one (1) representative from the Promoter in accordance with the competition evaluation criteria . Judging will take place on 2 November 2026. The winner will be notified directly by phone or email within two (2) business days of judging, and may be announced publicly via the Promoter's and Twinkl's social channels. If the winner does not respond within five (5) business days of the Promoter's first attempt to contact them, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternate winner. Privacy & Data Use " By entering, entrants consent to their personal information (name, school, email, entry content) being collected and used by both the Promoter and Twinkl to administer this competition, contact the winner, and — where opted in — send future marketing communications from Twinkl and/or the Promoter. Is SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium open earlier and later every day?

Extended hours apply on selected dates, including weekends, public holidays and school holidays. Opening and last entry times vary, so check opening hours for the date you’d like to visit.

When is the best time to visit for a little extra space?

The aquarium is often busiest between 10am and 1pm. An earlier morning or later afternoon entry slot may suit you if you’d prefer a little extra space to explore.

Do I have to arrive at the exact time on my ticket?

Your selected entry time is valid for a 30-minute arrival window. You can arrive at any time during that period.

What time is last entry?

Last entry is one hour before closing. Check opening hours for the time on your chosen date.

How long should I allow for my visit?

We recommend allowing at least 90 minutes to explore SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium.

Is a guided tour worth it for younger students?

Yes! Guided tours are designed for K–12 audiences, with educators adjusting language and depth to suit the group. For early-stage classes, it's often the easiest way to keep a life cycles lesson hands-on without the logistics falling on accompanying teachers.

Can we combine this with a self-guided visit to another attraction?

Absolutely. Many schools book a guided tour at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium in the morning, and then a guided tour at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo or a self-guided tour at Madame Tussauds Sydney or Sydney Tower Eye .

Do guided tours include curriculum-aligned worksheets?

Self-guided teacher resource guides covering Life Cycles, Habitats, Adaptations and Conservation are available to all schools and can be used to extend a guided tour visit back in the classroom .
